OneWalk. One Day. GI Cancers
Gastro-Intestinal Cancers includes colon, rectal, anal, esophagus, gastric, liver, pancreas, bile ducts, gallbladder, GI neuroendocrine and small bowel cancers.
Providing the best care to all the tumours comprising the GI site is perhaps our greatest challenge. The many advances made in patient treatments in recent years are gratifying but we have a long way to go! We have seen firsthand the value that private donations bring to our research and personalised patient care strategies. A gift helps kick-start a clever pilot project to get off the ground, this in turn is used to leverage more support from granting agencies or our industry partners. Then we start to see real progress for our patients; sometimes in areas that were otherwise overlooked due to funding limits.
If we meet our ambitious fundraising goal we plan to both pilot and evaluate the impact of a special patient navigator role to further assist our GI patients through complex care plans and best research opportunities. "The OneWalk GI patient navigator"
On September 12th, 2015 the Princess Margaret Cancer GI team "GI Joes" will walk 25 kms through the streets of Toronto, united with thousands of others. We are very proud to be part of this important endevor. We ask you to take a stand with us by donating now or by joining our team.
Special thanks goes to 3 amazing artists who so generously donated their beautiful works to our fundraising event! Check out their web-sites.
