On Feb 16th, 2017 (a day after my birthday) I learned that Janice Tomecek, my second mom who is very dear to me, was diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer. This is the first time that cancer has affected someone so close to my heart. After learning this news, Jan’s family and friends have decided to do something to help. We want to make a difference. Not just in Jan’s life, but all those lives that have been affected by this awful disease.
On June 24th, 2017 a team of us are walking the 25Km One Walk to Conquer Cancer, organized by the Alberta Cancer Foundation. We are reaching out to our community of family and friends for compassion, empathy and generosity to support those individuals who are battling for their health and wellness. Any amount of donation would help make a difference in someone’s life, and would help further us in our goal to raise awareness and find solutions to this horrific ailment.
OneWalk to Conquer Cancer is the Alberta Cancer Foundation’s movement to conquer all cancers. The funds I raise through OneWalk support breakthrough cancer research, clinical trials, enhanced care and the discovery of new cancer therapies at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre, Cross Cancer Institute and 15 other centers across Alberta.
It will be my honour to walk united alongside Jan's Journey and a powerful community of survivors and supporters who have fundraised and trained to participate in this cause.
Thank you for taking the time out of your day to learn about our efforts and helping an important cause.
