Ethan's Cancer Fight
On May 29th our son Ethan was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (type T) and it turned our world upside down. While as an in-patient at PMH he went through two chemo protocols without achieving remission. On July 20th he was released from hospital and began a new drug called Nelarabine as an out-patient. It is a drug that has never been used at Princess Margaret before. During this time it was also discovered that he had cancer cells in his spinal fluid so he received lumbar punctures twice weekly to inject chemo into his spine. I am happy to report that we have had some very positive news over the last couple of weeks. His spinal fluid is now clear of blast cells and, after testing his bone marrow we learned that he has finally reached remission and we can start the bone marrow transplant process! We are also very lucky to have a 10 / 10 donor that is willing to help. There are still many challenges ahead for my boy but he is a big, strong positive young man and I know we will get through this as a family.
While spending so much time at PMH over the past months I saw various ads for One Walk. Upon looking into it I discovered that it will be held on Ethan's 20th Birthday. I took that as a sign that I should get involved and do something to help everyone who is touched by this horrible disease.
I ask you to take a stand with me and join this life-saving adventure for all those touched by cancer. Be a part of my very personal journey - by giving, by walking with me, or simply by sharing my story. I appreciate any help you can provide.
