Angie's One Walk to Conquer Cancer
My birthday month!!!! I'll be the BIG 50 on June 18 and what better way to celebrate than to participate in a 40 km walk. I'm walking for the warriors that fought a long hard fight (Zia Emma, Cole, Uncle Domenic, Mandy, Julie) and those that still fight every day. I'll walk for as long as my legs will take. Love that Giovanna and Michelle are joining me and the Butterfly of Hope team. We're over 40 strong and counting!!!!
Today, my beautiful aunt, Zia Emma lost her 5 year battle with Leukemia. She would have been 70 years young on Sept 5th, just before the OneWalk to Conquer Cancer. She leaves behind my Uncle Alex, her children Dino and Maria, 3 grandchildren, so many extended family members and friends. Her smile will be sorely missed but all the good times and memories live on in all those that love her. I'll be adding Zia Emma's name to my shirt. On Sept 7 and 8, I'll be walking 40 kms in the One Walk to Conquer Cancer and Zia Emma will be walking with me. Thank you for all your support from the first walk! Watch over us!
My sweet friend, Phil, received heart breaking news today. His ex wife, Julie, mother of his children, lost her battle with Cancer. I didn't Julie but Phil said she was a warrior. See his Facebook Post: "It is with the upmost regret and sorrow that I received a heart wrenching message that my ex-wife and mother of our 3 children and grandmother to our grandson has lost her hard fought battle with cancer , she demonstrated the courage and willpower like I have never seen to battle this horrible disease but it wasn’t to be , I am numb and saddened not just for me but for our children, grandson and all my ex-wife’s family whom I still consider my family and always will, thru sorrow and joy in remembering Julka’s true happiness and joy for family and life we will get thru trying day’s ahead, and be better people for having known Julka (Julie)." RIP Sweet Angel, you suffering is over. This is why I walk and I'll continue for as long as my feet will carry me. I'll be adding Julie's name to my shirt.
Today, Chad aka Papa Butterfly, received his Angel wings and was called to Heaven. Chad Cieslik, Butterfly of Hope captain, proved one man can make a difference...literally one step at a time! Chad's inspiring leadership and courageous endeavors to make a difference for those with cancer and alziemers left quite a legacy behind him. It was an honour and a pleasure to nationally walk alongside him with his Butterfly of Hope team...he inspired us to raise over $2 million dollars! It's because of Chad that I satrted participating in the Cancer walks. He always said I can do it and belived in me when I didn't believe in myself. I shall forever cherish his inspiring stories and that huge smile and big hugs! The team walks to honour you in 2018.
I'm heart broken to find out that my dear friend, Cole, lost his fight with pancreatic cancer of June 15/2017. I'll be walking for him on Sept 9/2017. Miss you, sweetie but now you're with your beautiful daughter, Elina. No doubt, you're holding hands and smiling down on us. I'll always remember your kindness, fabulous smile, the Hugh Hefner robe and your oh so sexy hair knees. Gone too soon but never forgotten...This year I walk for you, Buddy!
Another year of training walks, asking for donations to make the $1500 goal is committed to to walk 25 kms. Sadly, it's also another year of more friends and family lost to this horrible disease and many living and struggling daily with cancer. This year, I'm adding my dear friend Cole, who's been living with pancreatic cancer for almost a year and soon cancer will win again. He's been fighting like a warrior and still has the most positive outlook on life and humanity. For the past year, Mike, Vince and I have made frequest visits to Hamilton. Usually, our visits consisted of life as a single parents, lots of laughing, deep converstaions about the meaning of life and being the best version of yourself as possible. We bring him homemade soup, when he asks (How can I say no?) and strawberry tarts from TreRose Bakery. He should't eat them but he says you only live once and since he'll be gone soon, he's going to enjoy them. He wishes he could be a cancer survivor but he accepts that he won't and enjoys everything he can when the pain is bareable. These days he's in a lot of pain. I'm grateful for having him in my life. LIVE <3 LOVE <3 LAUGH
Attended a fundraising event hosted by Crowe Soberman to raise funds for the Princess Margaret Hospital. It was so inspiring to attend such an amazing event for a worthy cause. The captain of their team spoke about being a survivor and grateful for what she has...Health, family, friends, love. Cancer has effected so many in some way or another. I heard from my cousin, Nadia that her supervisor was just diagnosed...a young man with a young family. Its my birthday month so I'm starting my fundraising efforts today. Again I ask like every year...No birthday gifts. I truly have everything I need. A donation to One Walk to End Cancer would be the best gift ever. Love to all <3
WOW!!!! It's that great time of year. I've been walking daily and absolutely loving it. Soon I'll be crazy training...walking from home to work at Dufferin and Bloor at least 3 times/week. Thank you to family and friends for supporting me for the past 4 years ...You guys are awesome! To the amazing warriors that fight this disease with everything they have every day single day. They are the true heros. many ask me why I walk so much and most of the time my answer is because I can and I do my small part by raising funds so a cure can be found. It will happen in my life time!
PEACE! LOVE! LAUGHTER!
I'm so blessed to be a part of this amazing event..To do my small share. On Sept 12/2015, I'll be joining thousands of people to fight cancer. I've had so much support over the last 4 years with raising almost $10,000, training 4000 kms and walking 210 kms towards finding a cure. 2015 will be no different. To the warriors that battle cancer...Larisa, Dina, Doo, Rhonda and so many more, I'll walk for as long as my feet carry me. Giving up is never an option. I believe a cure for cancer will be found.
OneWalk. One Day. ALL Cancers.
The Shoppers Drug Mart® OneWalk™ to Conquer Cancer benefiting Princess Margaret Cancer Centre is a game-changing movement to conquer cancer once and for all. On September 12th, 2015 I will walk 25 kms through the streets of Toronto, united with thousands of others, knowing that together we are changing the future for all those affected by this terrible disease.
I ask you to take a stand with me and join this life-saving adventure for all those touched by cancer. Be a part of my very personal journey - by giving, by walking with me, or simply by sharing my story. Don’t stand back and think about what you could have done! We have the opportunity to change thousands of lives, beginning with our own.
This isn’t just my journey – it’s yours, too.
