Help Me Make a Difference!
Patti would have been 66 today.
My stepmom Patti was a vibrant woman, a force to be reckoned with, and a role model for me when it comes to compassion. Everyone she met couldn’t help but be affected by her warm personality. If Patti was in the room, you felt welcome.
Patti took me on my first charity 10k walk when I was just 11 years old. That chilly fall day, surrounded by hundreds of other walkers, I felt like I was part of something BIG. That day she taught me that one person CAN make a difference in the lives of others. That's the kind of a role model I want to be for my own children.
In 2011, after a long and difficult battle with ovarian cancer, Patti passed away.
Our family did not have nearly enough time with her. Her youngest grandchildren will only know her through photographs and stories.
Every year, 2,800 Canadian women are diagnosed with ovarian cancer with 56% not living 5 years past their diagnosis. Yet gynecologic cancers continue to be one of the least funded areas of cancer research.
In Patti’s honour, I have set an audacious goal. September 8, 2018, I will walk 25 km in the OneWalk to Conquer Cancer™, and I will raise $3,500 towards gynecologic cancer research.
Funds from OneWalk go to support Personalized Cancer Medicine at The Princess Margaret, one of the top 5 cancer research centres in the world.
I’m asking YOU to join the fight: by registering to walk with me or making a donation towards my personal fundraising goal. Just click the “DONATE NOW” button on the right.
Together we will conquer cancer in our lifetime.
