Welcome to My Personal Page
OneWalk. One Day. ALL Cancers.
OneWalk to Conquer Cancer™ benefiting Princess Margaret Cancer Centre is a game-changing movement to conquer cancer once and for all. I will walk 25 kms through the streets of Toronto, united with thousands of others, knowing that together we are changing the future for all those affected by this terrible disease.
This is My Story, this is why I Walk….
When I signed up 4 years ago, for The Weekend to End Women's Cancers Two day 60 KM walk in 2013 with the Scotiabank Fight club, I signed up to walk for Friends and my Aunt who lost their battle, Family members, friends and colleagues who were battling or were survivors.
It was cold and rainy but an amazing experience. I went through so many emotions on that walk and in the end I signed up immediately for a second year...then reality hit...
May 2014 I became sick, to be honest I was sick before that, May was when my body finally said “enough, go take care of yourself.” I had no idea what was wrong, months of doctor's appointments, different treatments to no avail, the decision was finally made to operate on September 17, 2014. On October 30, 2014 I went in for my post op appointment, scheduled to finally go back to work and starting to feel more like myself, then the world stopped..."Your test came back positive for Cancer" I had no words. My kids, 6 and 9 at the time, went through my mind and all the things I wanted to do and experience with them. It was surreal and an experience I would not wish on anyone. The Doctor was talking and I’m not sure I really processed anything after those six words.
Fast forward to present day, I am relieved to say I was lucky, it was caught early. Now I am back and ready to continue the the fight against this disease that I continue to fear but refuse to let control me. Fight the fight so maybe one day we will no longer fear Cancer or go through the experience of hearing those words. I want to fight for a future without cancer and the fight starts here. One Step at a Time.
Last year I made it back to One Walk. With the help of two amazing young ladies, my fellow walkers and the support of all who donated and cheered me on, I completed 25KM. I can express eh feeling I felt when I crossed that line and walked into Nathan Phillips Square into the arms of my Family anf Friends.
In 2018 I will challenge myself to complete the two day walk, 15KM on Friday and 25Km on Saturday.
I ask you to take a stand with me and join this life-saving adventure for all those touched by cancer. Be a part of my very personal journey - by giving, by walking with me, or simply by sharing my story. Don’t stand back and think about what you could have done! We can change thousands of lives, beginning with our own.
This isn’t just my journey – it’s ours.
Thank you for taking the time to read about my reasons for walking and learn a bit about my journey.
